The Blanket Project
Tactile Robot
2001-2007.

Made with support from The Canada Council for the Arts & Future Physical. Textiles by Rhya Tamasauskas.

The Blanket Project is a robot shaped like a blanket that resides on top of a bed. It is composed of a mechanical grid that is wrapped in soft foam and covered by a duvet cover. Wave-like patterns are electronically generated, propelling it any direction along the surface a bed. These patterns can be invoked automatically, such that the robot acts autonomously, or by remote control, allowing a person to control the blanket. In the latter case, the blanket can be made to interact with human participants who share the bed, crawling on top of them and providing full body stimulation.
